![]() ![]() My policy was cancelledĪnd regardless of my heartfelt pleas over the phone, no underwriter Time for me over an $189 payment 2 days late. and they've generally done such a good job keeping intrigue alive in their stories for all these years that i'm less worried about that. This week has been a very disappointing and a stressful I don't think remedy will have a problem making the world seem as strange and unsettling to an almost humorous degree again, i think they've probably got that more or less down by now. the lighting and sound effects/audio design also heighten things the rubber duck's quacking is simultaneously hilarious and slightly unsettling. ![]() those dry, sterile office memos and letters go a long way in just making everything seem that much more left-of-center, seeming at times more like absurdist humor once you adjust to it. it's not just the weirdness, but how it's presented. Hmm, except i think the weirdness is only a relatively small part of what makes control so memorable and fun. The Astral plane, the world outside of the Oldest House (and the potential effect of Hiss on it) and connections to the Dark Place are pretty much unexplored, and could throw some real curveballs. Luckily the plot of Control leaves a lot of blank spaces and loose threads on which to build a sequel that might be able to at least almost fill the expectations set by fans of the original. That is not to say that the sequels weren't great games in their own right or that I didn't enjoy them a lot, but their appeal came from elsewhere. An example that comes to mind is Portal - by pretty much all metrics, Portal 2 is a more fleshed out and simply better game than the original, but because you are already familiar with the world and its most significant inhabitants, the level of whimsical mystery in the original could never quite be reached again. But in a sequel everything has to relate to the already existing world. When interacting with a game world for the first time, you have to piece together just what the world that you were thrown into is like, which to me is what really makes Control one of the all time greats. Yeah, I would expect that the same kind of wonder that I experienced playing Control for the first time is impossible to repeat, simply because the foundation (heh) of the worldbuilding is already done. As said in this post, I suspect that a major part of Control 2 will be outside the FBC. However, I have hope, Remedy knows how to make good games and I am sure they’ll find a way to make another masterpiece. This is quite concerning in the case of Control since the whole game was in a building which we seem to have seen almost the entirety. Remedy will have to keep a balance in the game between revealing more about existing mysteries and making new ones. On the other hand, if they add too many new things, without solving anything, It might feel like a lazy reboot or a disconnected story. The thing is that if they reveal too many secrets, that might ruin the first game and make the plot uninteresting. If Remedy wants to make another good game, they have to reveal more about existing mysteries or make new ones. I think you all see where I am going when I say that. The problem is that when making a prequel, It is tough to replicate the same feeling of weirdness that was present in the first game. When you first play them, you don’t know what is happening, you are curious and want to understand what is happening. ![]() These games are appreciated because they are mysterious/surprising.
